The Arena Football One season has officially crossed the line from curiosity to separation.

The Arena Football One season has officially crossed the line from curiosity to separation. Not everybody is chasing a championship anymore.
Some teams are chasing home-field advantage. Some are chasing survival. And a few already appear to be chasing quarterbacks capable of turning this league into something far more important than a summer football stop.
That became impossible to ignore during one of the wildest offensive weekends AF1 has produced all season, a weekend that featured 120 combined points in Michigan, 112 more in Nashville, a 79-point explosion from Washington and the official arrival of Kentucky quarterback Darryl Overstreet Jr., who suddenly has become one of the league’s most intriguing long-term prospects.
Overstreet joins a growing list of young quarterbacks trying to use AF1 as a springboard into the professional ranks.
The former Upper Iowa University standout made his first start for Kentucky in a 55-36 home victory over Beaumont on Sunday, bringing a dual-threat style that already has drawn attention from scouts at multiple levels of pro football.
Overstreet threw for nearly 2,800 yards and 23 touchdowns during his final college season in 2025 while completing better than 72 percent of his passes, numbers that helped place him among Division II football’s most efficient quarterbacks.
Several evaluators view the 6-foot-2, 210-pound quarterback as a legitimate prospect for future opportunities in the CFL, UFL or NFL camp circuit if his progression continues.
Meantime, the AF1 standings now tell a much different story than they did a month ago. Albany remains unbeaten at 6-0. Nashville sits at 4-1 and suddenly looks built for a deep postseason run. Kentucky improved to 4-1 behind its quarterback change. Minnesota enters Week 7 at 3-1 with a massive Friday night showdown looming against Nashville at Amsoil Arena.
Everybody else already is beginning to feel the pressure of July.
