Nashville, Kentucky Continue AF1 Week 7 Championship Push

The Arena Football One playoff picture continued sharpening during Week 7 as the league’s top contenders strengthened their positions while several struggling clubs drifted further behind.

The Kentucky Barrels again looked like one of the league’s most complete teams Sunday night, defeating the Oceanside Bombers 63-43 at Frontwave Arena.

Quarterback Darryl Overstreet Jr. completed 19 of 32 passes for 278 yards and five touchdowns without an interception as Kentucky improved to 5-1. The Barrels combined explosive vertical passing with timely defensive takeaways while continuing to establish themselves as a legitimate championship contender.

Darius Prince caught six passes for 151 yards and a touchdown, repeatedly stretching Oceanside’s secondary. Dezmon Epps added eight receptions for 77 yards and two touchdowns, while Shiloh Flanagan contributed five catches for 50 yards and another score.

Kentucky defensive back Joe Powell delivered the game’s defining defensive performance with three interceptions as the Bombers committed four turnovers overall.

Oceanside quarterback Rudy Johnson threw for 175 yards and three touchdowns but struggled protecting the football. Jovohn Tucker caught six passes for 85 yards and two touchdowns, while Vincent Strange Jr. added five receptions for 67 yards and another score.

The Bombers fell to 1-5 and continued struggling defensively after allowing 60-plus points for the second consecutive week.

The Michigan Arsenal produced perhaps their most complete performance of the season Friday night, defeating the Oregon Lightning 53-33 at First Interstate Bank Center.

Quarterback Malik Henry threw five touchdown passes and 268 yards as Michigan improved to 2-5. Henry completed 16 of 35 passes and consistently attacked Oregon downfield.

Jarvai Flowers led the Arsenal receiving corps with four catches for 112 yards and a touchdown, including a 47-yard scoring play. Trevante Long caught two touchdown passes, while Jairus Grissom added six receptions for 65 yards and another score.

Michigan’s defense supplied the game’s turning point when linebacker Michael White recorded a sack and returned it for a touchdown during the second half. White also finished with two sacks.

Oregon quarterback Dalton Cole completed only 9 of 31 passes for 99 yards while throwing three interceptions. Isaiah McFarland intercepted two passes for Michigan, while Khai West added another interception and recovered a fumble.

The Lightning fell to 1-5 and continue searching for offensive consistency.

The Beaumont Renegades moved back into the playoff discussion Saturday night with a 42-35 road victory over the Washington Wolfpack at Angel of the Winds Arena.

Quarterback Andrew McBride threw five touchdown passes despite three interceptions as Beaumont improved to 3-4.

Receiver Zuri Davis caught eight passes for 79 yards and four touchdowns, while Vincent Wilkerson II contributed six receptions for 48 yards and a touchdown. Dontrell Morrison added six catches for 68 yards.

Washington quarterback Eric Phoenix kept the Wolfpack competitive throughout the evening, completing 20 of 43 passes for 288 yards and four touchdowns without an interception. Deshon Williams caught six passes for 124 yards and three touchdowns.

Beaumont’s defensive pressure ultimately separated the teams. John Griggs recorded three sacks, while Metoriah Faoliu added another sack and forced a fumble.

The Wolfpack fell to 2-5 despite forcing three interceptions defensively.

The Nashville Kats continued strengthening their status among AF1’s elite Friday night with a 58-28 victory over the host Minnesota Monsters at Amsoil Arena.

Quarterback Tyler Kulka completed 23 of 40 passes for 243 yards and four touchdowns as Nashville improved to 6-1.

Kendyl Williams caught eight passes for 82 yards and three touchdowns, while Malik Honeycutt added nine receptions for 104 yards and another score.

Minnesota relied heavily on its running game behind former Minnesota Gophers running back Shannon Brooks, who rushed 10 times for 99 yards and a touchdown, including a 47-yard scoring run.

The Monsters struggled generating consistent offense through the air. Ja’Vonte Johnson and Tyriq Starks combined for only 89 passing yards while splitting quarterback duties.

Nashville’s defense forced key mistakes throughout the game, including an interception by Omari Alexander and a fumble recovery by Jaquan Artis.

The Kats continued demonstrating the offensive balance and efficiency that have made them one of the league’s most dangerous teams entering the second half of the regular season. Minnesota dropped to 3-2.
