From Howie: Nashville edges Washington

The Nashville Kats tightened their grip on the top spot in Arena Football One with another explosive offensive performance Friday night, rolling to a 68-30 victory over the Washington Wolfpack at Angel of the Winds Arena in Everett, Washington.

Nashville quarterback Tyler Kulka completed 18 of 29 passes for 344 yards and five touchdowns. The Kats improved to 10-1, while Washington fell to 5-6.

Nashville rolled up over 360 yards of total offense. Jordan Gandy led the receiving corps with six catches for 117 yards and two touchdowns, including a 43-yard scoring reception. Kendyl Williams added five receptions for 100 yards and two touchdowns, while Malik Honeycutt contributed four catches for 93 yards and a touchdown. Honeycutt also scored on a five-yard rushing run.

The Kats' defense was equally dominant, forcing five interceptions and creating six total takeaways. Washington quarterbacks Jaiave Magalei and Andrew McBride combined to complete just 17 of 42 passes for 128 yards with one touchdown and five interceptions.

Defensive back Omari Alexander had four interceptions, while Amos Coleman III added another interception and a pass breakup. Coleman also recorded seven tackles. Jaquan Artis, DeJon Walden, Malik McDowell and Roderick Perry II also recorded sacks for Nashville.

Washington never established any offensive rhythm. Magalei completed 10 of 19 passes for 79 yards with one touchdown and one interception before giving way to McBride, who finished 7 of 23 for 49 yards and four interceptions. Wide receiver Aakiel Greer caught seven passes for 49 yards, while Deshon Williams added five receptions for 36 yards, including Washington's lone touchdown reception.

The Wolfpack defense generated occasional big plays despite spending much of the night on the field. Defensive back Donyai Dixon finished with six tackles, a sack, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and an interception. Linebacker Rodney Green Jr. also recorded a sack, while defensive back Byron Edwards forced a fumble and returned a kickoff 50 yards for the Wolfpack's biggest special teams play.
